Programs are offered in more than 70 different countries, including but not limited to Australia, Germany, Finland, Mexico, Ireland, China, Haiti, Spain, and many more. |
The Office of International Education offers a variety of program types in order to accommodate the different needs of Buffalo State students. Researching and selecting the type of program you want to participate in is essential. Below you will find descriptions of each program type.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Faculty-Led Programs: Faculty-led programs are credit bearing study abroad experiences that are developed and led by Buffalo State faculty and/or staff. These programs are managed by Buffalo State and deliver specific Buffalo State courses partially or completely abroad. Faculty-led programs offer the opportunity to put academic content into an international context in a meaningful way.
A faculty-led study abroad program may be embedded within a course or may be a free standing course of its own. If the study abroad experience is embedded within a course, students are required to fulfill other course requirements during a fall or spring semester term with the faculty leader on campus prior to departure. A freestanding faculty-led program is one in which course content is delivered entirely during the student's time abroad.
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
International exchange programs allow Buffalo State students to study for a semester or academic year at one of our partner institutions abroad. Exchange participants take courses with local students as well as other international students at the host university. On a space available basis, these programs allow Buffalo State students to continue to pay Buffalo State's full-time tuition and fee rates as they normally would according to the student's residency.
STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS
Students participating in study abroad programs do not exchange places with a student from a university abroad and therefore pay tuition and fees to the host university. If a student desires to study with one of Buffalo State's exchange partners and all exchange spaces have been filled, the student will be eligible to study at the university on study abroad rather than exchange.
NATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE (NSE)
National Student Exchange (NSE) provides accessible collegiate study away to undergraduate students at member colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NSE allows students to take classes that are not available at Buffalo State, experience different geographic and cultural settings, investigate potential graduate schools, make connections in a potential job market, and much more.
SUNY STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS
If you are unable to find a program offered through Buffalo State that meets your academic needs, Buffalo State students are eligible to participate in a program offered through another SUNY institution.
